Background
Faridkot town is situated 40 K.M. from the Indo-Pak Border of
Hussainiwala on Ferozepur-Bathinda National Highway. Baba Farid
visited Faridkot town then known as Mokalhar in 1215 AD. The
people of Faridkot have great reverence for Baba Sheikh Farid.
His 112 Shalokas and 4 Shabads are enshrined in Shri Guru Granth
Sahib, supreme sacred book of the Sikhs.
A festival
under the name of Aagman Purb of Sheikh Baba Farid is organised
every year from 19th to 23rd September to commemorate the visit
of Baba Farid to this town. A variety of Cultural, Religious and
Sports events are arranged on this occasion.
Ministry of
Tourism Govt. of India has recognised this mega event as a
National Festival from the year 1998.
